Only physicians with a federal medical diploma or a foreign medical diploma recognised by the foreign medical diploma recognised by the FOPH are admitted to the specialist examination (Art. 23 WBO).

Thematic focus examination in Infection prevention and control in the healthcare sector
Oral-theoretical examination
In this part of the examination, the candidate has 30 minutes to answer at least 10 structured questions in English.
Oral practical examination
The oral-practical part comprises 2 consultations in the field of infection prevention and control, whereby clinical situations/questions must be assessed on the basis of various documents provided. Two experts assess the reports prepared by the candidate and ask questions about them. The candidate has 60 minutes to study the clinical situations/questions and write a consultation, and 30 minutes to discuss the situations with the experts.
